Extraordinary human experiences meet original music in this captivating journey through life's bizarre contradictions. We open with the almost comically desperate case of a jewelry thief who swallowed $770,000 worth of Tiffany diamonds to evade detection - only to have police discover them via a body scan while in custody. His impulsive heist, disguised as a representative for an Orlando Magic player, unraveled rapidly despite his attempt to literally internalize the evidence.
Between news stories, our original compositions create emotional bridges - from the gentle opening song about finding grace through trials to "Gorilla Girl," celebrating feminine strength with lyrics about a woman whose presence turns "wrong to right." These musical interludes provide the heartbeat of the podcast, allowing moments of reflection between the remarkable human stories we share.
Perhaps most moving is the story of Kendall Bryce, a 25-year-old mother with aquagenic urticaria - a rare condition making her allergic to water. "It feels like someone has taken a lighter to my body," she describes, revealing she can only shower twice weekly despite excruciating pain. Most heartbreakingly, she has never bathed her one-year-old son, as her condition forces her mother to perform this fundamental parental act. Despite medical consultations, Kendall remains without effective treatment, her daily life dictated by weather forecasts and the constant avoidance of rain.
We also pay tribute to Motown legend Smokey Robinson, tracing his journey from Detroit's North End to becoming one of music's most influential figures - not just as performer but as the executive who helped shape countless iconic careers at Motown Records.
The episode wraps with a tender ballad celebrating stillness and quiet connection - a fitting reminder that amid life's extraordinary challenges, there remains space for beauty and tenderness. Speaker 4:Man accused of swallowing $770,000 worth of diamonds from Florida Tiffany's. A man has been charged after he allegedly swallowed $769,500 worth of Tiffany and Company earrings following a robbery at a Florida store. Jathan Gilder, 32, stole two pairs of diamond earrings from the Tiffany Company store at the Mall at Millennia in Orlando on February 26. A spokesperson for the Orlando Police Department told People via email. According to an arrest affidavit per local media outlets WFLA, fox 35 Orlando and WKMG, police said Gilder gained access to the jewelry after he impersonated a representative for an Orlando Magic player who was interested in making a purchase and was taken to a VIP room to see the earrings. Speaker 3:Your voice calls out in the spaces between the world. Slowed the moment. Your smile broke through, eyes like storms, unraveling skies, so blue, aching doubts fading with each passing day, your heart pulling mine in its magnetic sway. Growing in love with you. Lost in your light, you took the dark, turned it into something bright. Every step closer feels like destiny's touch. Fallen in love. Never thought it'd be this much. Time stands trembling while oceans shift apart. But something deeper rooted inside my heart Silent fears breaking under the weight of truth. Your love ignited the fire in my youth, etched in time like cages carved in glass Moments. Flickered scars that now can't outlast. Flickered scars that now can't outlast. Your kindness taught me to breathe in the storm. Every crack mended Kept me safe and warm. Growing in love with you. Lost in your light, you took the dark, turned it into something bright. Every step closer Feels like destiny's touch, falling in love. Never thought it'd be this much.
Speaker 2:A mom who is allergic to water says taking a shower or getting caught in the rain feels like someone has taken a lighter to her body. Kendall Bryce, 25, has aquagenic urticaria, a rare condition which causes her skin to swell and break out in hives whenever she comes into contact with water. The mom of one, who is currently pregnant with her second child, says her life is a daily struggle, as she suffers from excruciating pain whenever she tries to wash her hands or her body hands or her body. She is also affected by rainwater and very humid days, meaning her life is dictated by the weather, and even feels a burning sensation when she drinks water. Doctors have so far been unable to find any medication which works for Kendall, and so she has been forced to continue living her life in excruciating pain. She is speaking out now in the hope that someone, somewhere, will be able to provide her with a long-term solution. It really is a daily struggle. I can only have a bath or take a shower twice a week because of how excruciating the pain is, so I constantly worry. I stink, said Kendall from Durham, uk. My life is dictated by the weather, as I have to avoid rain and even hot, humid days. I check the forecast every day and stay home if weather as I have to avoid rain and even hot, humid days. I check the forecast every day and stay home if it's raining or going to rain. But if I get caught out by surprise, my body reacts and it's really painful. I've never been able to give my one-year-old son a bath. My mom has to do it for me and I even feel my throat burning when I drink water". Kendall says the pain has escalated over the past few years to the point where it becomes so bad that her body can go into shock. When it started it felt a bit like I was getting nettle stings all over my body, but now it feels like someone has taken a lighter to my body. It's excruciating. She said I'll be in agony for about half an hour after washing, but it feels like it's two hours. I cry throughout. It's actually so bad that my body can go into shock, so it's dangerous. It means my mom has to sit with my son whenever I have a bath.
Speaker 2:Kendall first discovered her condition when she was 15 and started breaking out in hives whenever she took a bath. Initially she could treat her symptoms with puritan, but over the years things deteriorated. The GP didn't have a clue what to do. It's just such a rare condition, so not many people have it and not many people know about it, the stay-at-home mom said. Kendall was later referred to a dermatologist at the University Hospital of North Durham, who finally diagnosed her with aquagenic urticaria in 2021. However, she has still yet to find any medication that helps her condition. They've tried lots of different medications, but I kept reacting. I still haven't found something that helps. She said. At the moment there are only so many things I can try as I'm pregnant. Once I give birth we'll try more, but the thing is the doctors just don't know what will help. Kendall hopes that in sharing her story, she might find someone who knows how to treat her.
